Yamaha Flute Buying Tips
Before you buy a flute there are a few things you will need to know about types of flutes. The more you know about the construction and craftsmanship of the flute the better chance you have of choosing the right flute. It is always advisable to be a well informed consumer when purchasing any instrument. You can buy a brand new flute or a used flute as long as you have the information you need to choose a properly constructed flute. One of the best flutes you can buy is the yamaha flute. Yamaha has been producing high quality flutes for many years. As a matter of fact Yamaha is a leader in musical instrument production.
The three basic types or levels of flutes are student or standard flutes, intermediate flutes, and professional flutes. The tonality, sound, and reliability of a flute depend solely on its craftsmanship. Student flutes are generally the least expensive starting at around $200 new and about half that used. The standard yamaha flute would be a student flute and while the construction and craftsmanship is excellent it is still the least expensive of all the flutes. The intermediate flute has a more advanced construction and attention to detail giving them a little higher price tag. Finally, the professional flute which can sometimes cost even more than cars has the perfect quality and sound that a master flutist expects.
There are other things to consider when buying a flute such as do you want the open hole or the plateau flute? The open hole flute and the plateau flute styles have the same keys and mechanisms but the open hole flute has open keys meaning the flutist must make sure to completely cover the key in order to produce the proper note and sound. The yamaha flute has the option of either style available. The advantage of buying the open hole flute is that it teaches proper finger placement. The disadvantage is that it is harder to play for the beginner than the plateau flute.
The flute you buy is up to you and your needs. There are advantages and disadvantages in buying less expensive student flutes like the obvious advantage of cost. The disadvantage is that the student flute is not as well constructed and causes a loss of tonality. The intermediate flute has better craftsmanship and is as easy to play as the student flute with no real disadvantages. The professional flute is the best in quality but very expensive and usually harder to play for the beginner.
